ALL of my Public Speaking Comm 1 courses are HYBRID courses, meaning that much of the work will be done independently by you online (using Blackboard), though we will still meet in person for your delivery of four speeches. Mandatory meetings are:
Fall 2009: Section 63067: 9/5, 10/10, 11/7, and 12/5 from 9-4 in room 833, Aptos Campus
Fall 2009: Section 63068: 9/19, 10/24, 11/21 and 12/12 from 9-4 in room 833, Aptos Campus
These meetings are mandatory and the sections are mutually exclusive. If you cannot make any of these dates, please do not sign up for my courses. Required text: Speak Up! By Fraleigh & Tuman
Online Comm 6 (listening) courses are SEPARATE from my online Comm 1 courses, though they may be taken in conjunction to fulfill the co-requisite. We have no meetings for Comm 6 and you are expected to log into Blackboard(accessed from Cabrillo's home page under distance ed.)the first day of the semester to confirm your spot, read the syllabus, and orient yourself with the discussion board and the assignments. No text is required for this course.
About me:
I absolutely love working with the awesome students at Cabrillo! My dream class is one filled with motivated students who come prepared with three things: questions, a willingness to try new things and a dedication to improving. Having taught public speaking courses for ten+ years, I understand the fears that come with getting up in front of others to present ideas. I love the empowerment that communication classes offer, and I'm always thrilled to coach and encourage students along the way. Three words that best describe my teaching style: Energetic, Knowledgeable and Fair.
